Independence Day Jubilee

In 1783, delegates to Congress celebrated Independence Day at Morven. On the 225th anniversary of America’s most important national holiday, Morven once again invites young and old to its historic grounds for family fun and revelry. Programs include:
•    Mrs. Stockton Hosts Congress, a play by The American Historical Theatre
•    Historical Demonstrations by the Past Masters
•    Colonial Carriage Rides
•    Royal Scottish Country Dance Society
•    Story Teller/Master of Ceremonies – Rivka Willick
•    Tours of the history exhibition Picturing Princeton 1783: The Nation’s Capital
•    Refreshments in the 1783 Tea Room, with a presentation by Stacy Roth on 18th-century teas and customs

Independence Day Programs
Princeton Battlefield & Thomas Clarke House
July 4, 5, & 6

Princeton Battlefield State Park and the Thomas Clarke House are the site of three days of historic re-enactments, interpretive educational demonstrations, a military encampment, and a newly-written play.

On July 4, costumed interpreters give interactive educational demonstrations at a series of sites around the Clarke House of military life before and after the Battle of Princeton.

On July 5, the play Ghosts of the Battlefield by Laura Crockett brings to life the ghosts of people who fought during the battle and tells their stories.

From July 5 to 6, a military encampment recreates the military life and action of the American Revolution.

Matthew Thurlow, curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, discusses how furnishings can impart knowledge of their time to us in the way they were constructed, their style, their individualized use and social history.  Learn how to listen to these silent witnesses of the past, with an emphasis on late-18th century furnishings of the type found at Rockingham.
